Knee pain is one of the most common extremity complaints treated at Lagoni Chiropractic, and one that benefits significantly from a whole-body approach. The knee is a hinge joint caught between two highly mobile structures, the hip above and the ankle below. When either of those structures is not moving the way it should, the knee compensates.
Over time that compensation produces wear, irritation, and pain in a joint that was simply doing its best to accommodate a problem somewhere else in the chain.
That does not mean every knee problem originates above or below it. Meniscus injuries, ligament sprains, and direct trauma to the joint are genuine knee conditions that need to be evaluated and treated on their own terms. But even in those cases, the biomechanics of the hip, pelvis, and lumbar spine play a role in recovery and in reducing the risk of reinjury. Dr. Jay takes a thorough approach to knee complaints that evaluates the joint itself alongside the structures above and below it.
Common knee conditions treated at Lagoni Chiropractic include meniscus injuries from sports or sudden twisting movements, ligament sprains, patellofemoral pain syndrome, iliotibial band syndrome in runners and cyclists, and knee pain associated with hip or lumbar spine dysfunction. Dr. Jay also sees a significant number of athletes and active adults dealing with knee conditions that developed gradually from repetitive loading rather than a single traumatic event.
Evaluation includes a detailed history and physical examination of the knee and surrounding structures. Imaging is coordinated when the clinical picture warrants it. Treatment may include adjustments to the knee, hip, pelvis, and lumbar spine, Arthrostim instrument adjusting, low-level laser therapy to reduce inflammation, electric muscle stimulation, therapeutic ultrasound, kinesiotaping for joint support and proprioception, and a home exercise program targeting the strength and movement imbalances contributing to the problem.
