Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine that affects patients of all ages, from adolescents going through growth spurts to adults dealing with degenerative changes that develop over decades. It is not a single condition with a single presentation.

Curves vary in location, severity, and progression, and the experience of living with scoliosis varies just as widely. Some patients have mild curves that cause occasional discomfort. Others deal with chronic pain, muscle fatigue, and limitations in daily activity that significantly affect their quality of life.

Chiropractic care does not straighten a scoliotic curve. That is an important distinction and one Dr. Jay makes clearly with every scoliosis patient. What chiropractic can do is address the mechanical consequences of an abnormal spinal curve: the joint restriction, muscle imbalance, postural compensation, and nerve irritation that develop as the spine and surrounding structures adapt to an altered alignment.

For many scoliosis patients, managing those secondary effects through regular chiropractic care makes a meaningful difference in how they feel and how well they function day to day.

Scoliosis patients at Lagoni Chiropractic receive a thorough evaluation including digital X-rays when indicated to assess the degree and location of the curve. Dr. Jay takes a detailed approach to understanding each patient's specific curve pattern and how it is affecting the surrounding structures before developing a care plan. Treatment is realistic about what chiropractic can and cannot accomplish and focused on improving function, reducing pain, and maintaining the best possible quality of life given the underlying condition.

Treatment may include gentle chiropractic adjustments tailored to the specific curve pattern, Arthrostim instrument adjusting, soft tissue therapies, low-level laser therapy, electric muscle stimulation, and a home exercise program targeting the muscle imbalances and postural factors associated with the curve. For adolescent patients still in a growth phase, monitoring and early intervention to manage symptoms and prevent progression of functional limitations is an important part of the care approach.
