Shoulder pain is one of the more complex conditions treated at Lagoni Chiropractic because the shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body. That mobility is what makes it so useful and what makes it so vulnerable. When something goes wrong in the shoulder, whether from a sudden injury, repetitive overhead motion, or gradual wear, the pain can be persistent, limiting, and slow to resolve without the right approach.
Dr. Jay Lagoni sees a high volume of shoulder conditions in the office, including shoulder impingement, rotator cuff strains and tears, bursitis, and referred pain from the cervical spine that presents as shoulder discomfort. One of the most important distinctions in treating shoulder pain is determining whether the problem is actually in the shoulder joint itself or whether it is being referred from the neck or upper thoracic spine. That distinction changes the treatment entirely and is something a thorough evaluation will reveal.
Shoulder impingement occurs when the tendons of the rotator cuff become pinched between the bones of the shoulder during movement, producing pain with reaching, lifting, or rotating the arm. Rotator cuff injuries range from mild strains to significant tears and are common in both athletes and patients who perform repetitive overhead work. In either case, addressing the biomechanics of the shoulder, cervical spine, and upper back together tends to produce better outcomes than treating the joint in isolation.
Treatment at Lagoni Chiropractic for shoulder conditions may include adjustments to the shoulder joint, cervical spine, and upper thoracic spine, Arthrostim instrument adjusting, electric muscle stimulation, low-level laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, kinesiotaping, and a home exercise program targeting shoulder stability, rotator cuff strength, and range of motion. Dr. Jay also coordinates with other providers when imaging or specialist evaluation is needed.
