Athletes put their bodies through demands that the rest of the population does not, and when something goes wrong the stakes are higher. Missing a season, sitting out of competition, or watching a sport you love from the sideline while an injury heals is not just a physical problem. For student athletes with scholarship aspirations, adults who rely on physical activity for their mental and physical health, and aging athletes who are not ready to slow down, getting the right care quickly and completely matters.

Dr. Jay Lagoni has a personal connection to this patient population. He was a wrestler from junior high through college, dealt with a serious spinal injury during that time, and knows what it means to fight to stay in competition. He now practices in a community where youth sports are central to the culture and treats athletes of all ages, from Pendleton Heights students competing in wrestling, football, baseball, and softball to middle-aged adults who refuse to let an injury end their active lifestyle.

Sports injuries seen regularly at Lagoni Chiropractic include sprains and strains of the spine, shoulder, knee, ankle, and wrist, rotator cuff injuries, shoulder impingement, knee ligament and meniscus conditions, ankle sprains, epicondylitis in the elbow, and spinal injuries including disc herniations and radiculopathy from contact sports and repetitive athletic loading. Dr. Jay also works with athletes dealing with the cumulative effects of training: the repetitive stress injuries that develop gradually and often go untreated until they become acute.

The approach to sports injuries at Lagoni Chiropractic is built around getting the athlete back to full function as efficiently as possible without cutting corners on the process. That means a thorough evaluation to identify exactly what is injured and how severely, appropriate imaging when needed, a treatment plan that addresses both the acute injury and the underlying mechanical factors that contributed to it, and a home exercise program that supports recovery and reduces the risk of reinjury. Treatment may include chiropractic adjustments, Arthrostim instrument adjusting, low-level laser therapy, electric muscle stimulation, therapeutic ultrasound, kinesiotaping, and progressive rehabilitation exercises.

Dr. Jay also coordinates with other providers when imaging, specialist evaluation, or surgical consultation is warranted. Getting an athlete the right care sometimes means referring out, and that is always the recommendation when the clinical picture calls for it.
